What is wrong with wedding rings and watches?

Question:
My church does not believe in wedding rings or watches. Now I know a lot of apostolic churches that do believe in a wedding ring and a watch. So my question is, does the Bible say anywhere that we should not wear a watch or a wedding rings? Thanks.
Answer:
1 Peter 3:3-4 says, 'Do not let your adornment be merely outward -- arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel --4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.' Some pastors interpret Peter's instruction not to be adorned with gold to include gold wedding rings and watches. Others make a distinction between functional jewelry and non-functional jewelry. We suggest you go along with the teachings at your local assembly.
