Question:
How serious is the sin of gluttony? And from your perspective, how much food do you feel is enough for our body? If you don't mind, please give me an example of the correct amount of food we should intake.
Answer:
Gluttony is a serious matter because it results in fatigue and poor health. It also reflects a general lack of self-control, which is contray to the character of Jesus Christ. The Bible associates gluttony with drunkenness. Proverbs 23:21 says, 'For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty.' Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 9:27, 'But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.' Gluttony is the opposite. It is to let the body bring us under subjection.
As to how much food is necessary to sustain good health, that would vary from person to person. We suggest you look for a good book on this subject.
