Perhaps there has always been a shortage of planters. After all, the only specific prayer request the Lord Jesus made was, 'Pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest' (Matthew 9:38). The next thing we read is, 'And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power...These twelve Jesus sent out...'(Matthew 10:1,5). In other words, the laborers Jesus had in mind were apostles, the sent out ones. And what are apostles send out to do? To plant local assemblies (see Acts 13-14).
