Is the spirit alive after death?

Question:
If you say that only the humanity of Jesus was dead but His Spirit still existed, then why do you not believe that when our bodies die our spirits are alive?
Answer:
The Spirit of Jesus is the Holy Spirit and cannot die; it is the 'eternal Spirit' (Hebrews 9:14). Ecclesiastes 12:7 says, 'Then the dust will return to the earth as it was,
and the spirit will return to God who gave it.' When the humanity of Jesus died on the cross, His human spirit returned to God who gave it and His physical body (the dust) returned to the earth; that is, His body was buried. When we die, the same thing happens: spirit returns to God and dust to the earth. At that point we have no consciousness until the resurrection. The difference between us and Jesus is that we are only human; He was God manifested in the flesh. Though His humanity died, His Deity (the Holy Spirit) lived on. It was this Holy Spirit that raised Him from the dead just as He one day will for all who believe in Him (see Romans 8:11).
