Question:
Why did Jesus curse the fig tree? Why the fig tree, the reason? What has this to do with salvation? Thank you.
Answer:
Some believe that the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was a fig tree, since Adam and Eve immediately covered themselves with fig leaves (Genesis 3:1-7). This would definitely explain the symbolism of Jesus cursing a fig tree. As a representation of man's rebellion against God, Jesus was about to curse it once and for all by dying for the sins of man. In other words, the salvation He was about to provide on Calvary would overcome the effects of Adam's rebellion in the Garden. Today, Jesus is the Tree of Life (Revelation 2:7).
