Question:
If a person got a tattoo before they became aware of this scripture, should they have it removed? My husband got one when he was in Vietnam on his upper arm.
Answer:
Removing a tattoo is certainly an option, especially if the tattoo is in a visible location that is not usually covered by clothing. If it is generally covered, it would really be up to the person. Some people feel embarassed by a tattoo that serves as a continual reminder of their life before Christ. Removing it sometimes has important symbolic value.
We see this as more a matter of our witness than a moral matter. Obviously a believer should not go out and get tattooed. But the mistakes we make before salvation are covered by the blood at the new birth, even though the evidences of those mistakes sometimes stay with us long after the fact.
