Question: Please explain the phrase 'I am ascending to My Father and your Father and to my God and your God.'

Answer: Jesus was explaining that He would be asceninding into the eternal realm of heaven. Acts 1:9 says it this way, 'Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.' Luke 24:51 says it like this, 'Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven.' 1 Timothy 3:16 says that Jesus was 'received up in glory.' Daniel 7:13 describes the asecnsion this way, 'I was watching in the night visions, and behold, one like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days....' In each of these passages, we see the Son of Man (the One who was born) ascending into the eternal One, variously called the Father, heaven, glory, and the Ancient of Days.
