Question: Do you believe that one should confess to another person their sin in order to be forgiven? Thank you!

Answer: No, we receive forgiveness by confessing our sins to God. Confession to man is a Roman Catholic practice. Having said that, I can also tell you that if you sin against another person, you may need to confess what you have done in order to receive that person's forgiveness. The other reason we confess to people is to overcome our sins. James 5:16 instructs us 'Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed.' This is not confession for forgiveness, but confession for accountability and growth. At our local assembly, we practice this in our home group meetings.
