Question:
Since the 'kingdom of heaven' is not a physical place, but rather the lifestyle of living by godly concepts and principles, why are people saying the gift of speaking in tongues is evidence of salvation and is necessary in order to have eternal life?
Answer:
We cannot answer for others. We do not know why some say that speaking in tongues is evidence of salvation. You will have to ask them. What we say is that speaking in tongues is evidence of the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4; 10:44-48; 19:5-6). But there are some who have received the gift of the Spirit yet are not saved. We are saved by faith, not by speaking in tongues. Please read our article titled 'Saved By Grace Through Faith' on Shelf 1 of the Apostolic Free Library found on this website.
