Question: I was once asked by my board mate if baptism of water is necessary for salvation or was it a part of salvation? I just answered yes but I didn't give any explanation because I don't know what baptism of water means. Can you tell me what baptism of water really means? Am I right when I said that it is important for salvation?

Answer: Baptism is part of the way God saves people. 1 Peter 3:21 says, 'There is also an antitype which now saves us -- baptism.' And Jesus said in Mark 16:15-16, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved.'
