Thanks for the response. You are right I have seen the role misused because the leader who is the supposed 'watchman' let false doctrine and wolves in the flock. Also Ephesians 6:18 says' being watchful to this end in all perseverance and requests for all the saints,' which like you said is a requirement for all the FAMILY of GOD. I think I have a better understanding of the watchman now. Thanks.
Answer:
Keep in mind that just because some men misuse their authority in the Lord, this does not mean the authority does not exist. Every man will have to give an account for how well he does his work watching over the people entrusted to his care. As Hebrews 13:17 says, 'They watch out for your souls, as those who must give account.'
