Question: I often wondered if any Holy Ghost filled person can baptize people, or does it have to be a preacher? I couldn't find reference in the Bible for that. Need to know right away. Thanks.

Answer: We do not know of any place in the Bible that lays out specific requirements for those who baptize others. We would say that anyone who would baptize should be a person of who has obeyed the gospel (Acts 2:38), is faithful, living a holy life, and possessing strong faith. It should definitely be a person who believes that baptism must be 'in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins.'

The other consideration concerns whatever policy may be in place at the local assembly. At our's we have certain reliable and mature men who have been trained in how to baptize. In general these men do the baptizing; however, we would not preclude the possibility that in an unusual circumstance someone else may baptize someone. We suggest following the policy at your local assembly.
