Question: Why did God choose water baptism?

Answer: We cannot always know why God makes the choices that He does, but we can make some reasonable deductions. First, water baptism is non-restrictive. Everyone can be baptized. Second, water is a common substance available practically everywhere in the world. Third, being immersed in water is an excellent representation of being buried in the ground. In baptism we are said to be participating in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Fourth, water is used throughout the world for washing, and in baptiusm our sins are washed away. Water is therefore an appropriate medium. Fifth, in many societies the idea of passing through water represents making a new and fresh start. It therefore fits in well with the idea of being born again. These are a few of the reason why God may have chosen water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ.
