Question:
Is the angel of the Lord another name for God? If so, why does it seem as though that title is referring to two entities? Or is it referring an angel or to Jesus?
Answer:
The term 'angel of the Lord' is often used of God in the Old Testament, particularly when He is interacting with humanity. For example, Exodus 3:2 says, 'And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush.' We know that this is referring to God since verse 4 says, 'So when the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, 'Moses, Moses!'
