Is hell for eternity?

Question:
When a trinitarian Christian dies, does he go to hell for eternity or is he utterly destroyed?
Answer:
2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 says that those who 'do not know God' and those who 'do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ' will be 'punished with everlasting destruction.' Some believe this verse means that the destruction process will continue on throughout eternity. But the construction in the original language indicates that this is saying that the results of the destruction will continue throughout eternity. In other words, once a person is destroyed, there is no further possibility of redemption. It is over. All is lost. This is our belief.
