Question:
So if we are not to call them pastors, could you explain for me Ephesians 4:11: And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Answer:
Ephesians 4:11 names five gifts that Jesus has given to the church for the equipping of the saints for their works of ministry, that the body may be edified. They are not titles and were not used as titles in Bible days. Although today we often say 'the apsotle Paul,' the Bible never refers to him that way. At most it says 'Paul, an apostle.' In the Bible, the word 'apostle' is us to identify Paul's ministry to the church. It is never used as a title.
