Question:
Sir, what are the kinds and differences of speaking in tongues in the Bible ?
Answer:
Tongues are languages. Acts 2:6 says, 'Everyone heard them speak in his own language.' So when people speak in tongues, the languages they speak are the common languages spoken by people around the world. I believe there are currently about 5000 languages. In addition, in 1 Corinthians 13:1 Paul wrote, 'Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels....' This indicates that sometimes when people speak in tongues, they may be speaking the languages of angels. The point is, the speaker does not know the language, has never learned it. This is how we can know that it is a gift of God, since God knows all languages.
