Question: Some base their pro-life stance upon 'eternal soul' philosophy and believe that abortion is denying an eternal soul life in a human body. Since an unborn baby has not taken its first breath and has not, therefore, become a living soul, upon what Scriptures should a pro-ife belief rightly be based?

Answer: Christians oppose all abortions because:

1. Abortion destroys a human being whom God is in the process of forming in the womb (Job 31:15; Psalms 139:13-16; Jeremiah 1:4-5).

2. Abortion is shedding innocent blood, a practice which God hates (Proverbs 6:16-17).

3. Abortion defiles our land and cries out for divine retribution (Numbers 35:33; Proverbs 13:34). As God said to Cain after murdering his innocent brother, 'The voice of your brother's blood cries out to Me from the ground' (Genesis 4:10).

The fact that an unborn child is not yet a 'living soul' in no way diminishes the crime that abortion is against life and against God. An unborn child may not yet be a breathing human being, but it is certainly a human being undergoing formation by the hand of God. For the hand of man to knowingly and deliberately terminate that process for any reason is a direct assault against the Father of all humanity.
