Question: I read John 3:16 in the King James version of the Bible and it says 'that whosoever believes in him should not perish' and when I read the New International version it says 'that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.' Which one is right? One says 'should' and the other says 'shall.' Does this mean that all I need to do to be saved is believe in him?

Answer: 'Should' is an Old English way of saying the same thing. The promise of John 3:16 is that those who believe in Jesus will not perish but will live forever. The question is, what does it mean to believe in Jesus? To answer this question, we refer you to an article called 'Saved By Grace Through Faith,' which you can find on Shelf 1 of the Apostolic Free Library on this webiste.
