Question:
My buddy, who is an elder, says that as long as you believe on Jesus and receive salvation (Acts 2:38), it doesn't matter if you believe God is a trinity, that in the end just trust in Jesus and God will overrule your ignorance.
Answer:
2 Thessalonians 2:13 says that we are saved 'through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.' To be saved we must believe the truth, and the trinity is not the truth. So your buddy needs to realize that believing in the trinity is failing to believe in God at all, since God is not three persons. 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one!'
