Question:
Why don't pastors teach that the apostles receive the Holy Spirit before the day of Pentecost, according to St.John 20:22. God is wise and he would not let Peter and the rest be unaware. Peter knew the demonstration of the Holy Spirit or he would not have been able to tell the on-lookers what was taking place.
Answer:
We have no way of knowing why pastors do not teach certain doctrines. Each man must be true to his own beliefs and understandings of Scripture.
We can say that in the incident you refer to, the Bible does not say that Peter and the others received the Holy Spirit. It only says that Jesus said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.' It does not record their response.
In Acts 2:4, however, the Bible says, 'And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.' Perhaps some pastors believe that Jesus promised the Spirit in John 20:22 and actually deliverd it in Acts 2:1-4.
