Question:
Is God Jesus the Christ? If so, why do the scriptures of the N.T declare that there is One God the Father and One Lord Jesus?(1Cor.8:6}. Is Jesus living in that glorified body(flesh) in heaven now?(Phil.3:20-21)
Answer:
The answer to your seond question is yes, the same Jesus who walked the earth, was crucified for your sins, and rose from the dead is currently residing in heaven. In Acts 1:11, an angel told the apostles, 'This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.' And in Acts 3:19-21, Peter said, 'Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things....'
When the Bible speaks of there being one God the Father and one Lord Jesus Christ, it is differentiating between God is His role as the originator of all things and in His role as Lord and Savior. As the Father, God is an eternal and invisible Spirit. But as the Lord and Savior, He is the Man who was born in Bethlehem and crucified on Calvary.
Paul wrote to Timothy that 'God was manifested in the flesh' (1 Timothy 3:16). What he was saying was that the eternal invisible Father was made visible and mortal by taking on humanity. This is not speaking of two divine persons, but one God who has entered His creation in the form of man. This man is described by Paul as 'the image of the invisible God' (Colossians 1:15).
