Is spirituality internal and religion external?

Question:
I heard someone say that spirituality is from within and that religion is organized. The individual was making a comparison/difference. All churches are organized in some form, even Apostolic churches. I guess he was trying to explain that spirituality is internal and religion is external.
Answer:
Thank you for sharing these thoughts. The problem with what you have said is that you have offered no explanation as to what you mean by the term 'spirituality' or or the term 'religion.' Just because spirituality is internal does not mean it lacks organization; so I'm not sure your comparison is valid. Also, true spirituality always expresses itself outwardly. So I am not sure what your point is. If you mean that religious ritual is man-made and is not spiritual, they I would certainly agree with that.
