Question: I know of someone who was involved in a similar situation (one had a small child). They did marry and are still together after a few decades. They followed ALL the steps that you mentioned. Why do they feel as if their marriage is cursed? Heavy shame plagues them still.

Answer: Some people battle feelings of guilt and shame over their past transgressions even when there is not reason to. This shows a deficit in their faith, which is probably due to a failure to fully comprehend the magnitude of what God has done for them by coming in the flesh and dying for their sins. Such people need to have an experience like Job, who when he saw God as He really is, said, 'I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You. Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes' (Job 42:5-6).
