Question: Doesn't Revelation 3:10 teach that the church would be spared of the Great Tribulation?

Answer: Revelation 3:10 says, 'Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.' The way the Kings James Bible translates this verse could give the impression that those whom Jesus is addressing will not have to go through the time of great tribulation. But consider how the same idea is conveyed in John 17:15 where Jesus says, 'I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.' Clearly being kept from the evil one does not mean being totally removed from him. It means protected from him. I believe the God's Word Translation captures the idea better in Revelation 3:10, 'Because you have obeyed my command to endure, I will keep you safe during the time of testing which is coming to the whole world to test those living on earth.'
