What does it mean that spirits are subject to prophets?

Question:
Could you please explain the meaning of 1 Corinthians 14:31-33, that the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. Thank you and Lord continue to Bless you!
Answer:
This verse is telling us that those who are used in the gift of prophecy and diverse tongues have the responsibility to speak out at the proper time. They cannot interrupt someone and then claim that the Spirit overpowered them. This is part of what Paul meant about everything being done decently and in order (see 1 Corinthians 14:40).
