This is something I have dealt with in our church as well. I actually find myself wearing earplugs and hiding them under my hair, so as not to offend anyone. But with my developing some serious hearing damage, I am now looking for another church. I think sometimes churches use volume to 'get people going' instead of letting the heart-felt worship and God's presence do the job. I believe in praising God with everything we have as well....but God's not deaf.
