Answer: |
In Matthew 19:4-6 Jesus said: 'Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,' 5 and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.'
Jesus affirmed the Edenic principle of one man with one wife. He said, 'They are no longer two but one flesh.' He did not say no longer three or four or five. Polygamy may have tolerated prior to the giving of the Holy Spirit, but from the beginning it was not so and it ought not be so today.
