I am hearing a new term frequently when listening to sole pastors and their wives refer to receiving all tithes: stipend. As you know, Webster's defines 'stipend' as a fixed sum of money paid periodically for services or to defray expenses. What is the purpose of using this terminology? How could a percentage (that is 10% tithe) equal 'fixed sum'?
