Question:
The Bible says that God will rule over earth for a thousand years and it says that heaven and earth will pass away. After the lord has returned and the tribulation is over, will we be in heaven forever or on a new earth. Thanks, God Bless!!!
Answer:
Revelation 21:2 says, 'Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.' After Jesus returns we will live with Him in a new earth, which is actually a renewed earth. In other words, it will be the same earth we live on now, but it will be made new. The Bible says that before the new earth is established, 'the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up' (2 Peter 3:10). This will prepare the earth to be made new, something like it was after the great flood. We sometimes say that when believers die they go to heaven, but actually heaven will come to the earth. When Jesus said that the present earth would pass away, He only meant that the present form of the earth would pass away, not the planet.
